Silica Resin

The GENOMED Silica Resins are non-charged high quality spherical silica beads. Depending on their specific applications, the resins are surface modified differently. All silica resins are applied as resin suspension and used in so called "batch procedures" (see below).

Silica resin specifications:

Spherical silica beads
Individually modified membrane surfaces
Selective adsorption of DNA
Always following the "bind-wash-elute" principle
DNA binding under high salt conditions
DNA elution under low salt conditions (TE buffer or water)
No phenol/chloroform extraction
No organic or toxic reagents
No alcohol precipitation
A260/280 is always > 1.8

The "batch procedures" which are used with resin suspensions to prepare and purify DNAs follow the same "bind-wash-elute" principle as a spin cup procedure. In contrast to a spin cup procedure, resin suspension is added to the DNA sample with a pipette. DNA is then bound to the resin, whereas proteins, polysaccharides, dyes (if present) and other impurities are not adsorbed. Residual solution and DNA containing resin are separated by a 1min centrifugation. The supernatant can be discarded. The resin is washed once and the DNA can be eluted in TE buffer or water and is ready to use.
